KHS PET event in Hamburg
Top PET talk
Informative KHS events are very popular. It thus goes without saying that the PET event orchestrated by KHS Corpoplast and KHS Plasmax in Hamburg, Germany, last year was a success. Over 100 representatives of international companies and 20 expert journalists came to learn more about the many sides to PET at the opening of the new production shop for KHS Corpoplast. Topics included:
- Ultraclean filling in PET bottles
- The modular line concept (duoblock)
- KHS’ service philosophy
- The Plasmax FreshSafe concept and
- Innoprint direct PET bottle printing.
Presentations by Toshihiro Ueki (general manager, Shonan Plant, Kirin Beverage Company Ltd.) and Thomas Reise (head of Technology, Hansa Heemann AG) also caught guests’ attention. Among other things both speakers talked about their long and successful stretch blow molder cooperation with KHS and about KHS’ range of services, available at all times.
On his tour of the three production shops at the PET plant in Hamburg, Prof. Matthias Niemeyer, CEO/CTO of KHS GmbH, welcomed the many guests and announced that the company would be launching more innovations at the then upcoming drinktec 2013 trade show. Reason enough, then, for Thomas Karell, the manager of KHS Corpoplast, to give a positive summary of the event. “The KHS PET Center in Hamburg made a very good impression.” What visitors found especially laudable was the successful mix of exciting innovations, interesting talks, great hospitality and the prevailing very pleasant atmosphere.
This is a great honor for KHS. The company recently received the FOX GOLD AWARD for its customer magazine KHS competence for the third time running. The top-class jury (acting on behalf of the leading online media portal CP Wissen) was convinced by the clear structure and customer-oriented content of KHS competence. The main reason for this is that the company takes a back seat in the various articles, instead focusing on presenting its readers with efficient, sustainable systems, which give them added value. QR codes, for example, also provide links to more useful background information.

KHS wins yet another award
Those who took part included the breweries Cervecería y Maltería Quilmes, CCU Argentina, Cerveza Isenbeck/SABMiller, Cervecería Polar, Miller-Coors, and AB AmBev. One of the event highlights was KHS inviting the symposium guests to a KHS evening in the historic El Zanjón building erected in 1850. Georg Zuzok (head of Market Zone Americas, KHS GmbH) and Jorge Bosch (manager of KHS Argentina S.A.), agree that “This was an extremely interesting and successful event for all who took part.”
To mark 60 years of KHS in Brazil, from August 6–8, 2013 the Latin-American Symposium was held by the Research Institute for Brewing and Malting Technology, Berlin (VLB), in Buenos Aires in Argentina. As the main sponsor of this prestigious event, KHS presented its expertise in the beer sector and make quite an impression. This included a lecture by Dr. Andreas Zeller (Process Engineering, KHS GmbH) on KHS ECOSTAB technology, which has heralded a new dawn in the stabilization of beer. Around 250 representatives from big breweries in all countries of South America seized the opportunity to attend further specialist talks and exchange ideas with colleagues.

The mineral water summit staged by the VDM (Association of German Mineral Water Companies) took place in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, on November 19 and 20, 2013. Prof. Matthias Niemeyer, CEO/CTO of KHS GmbH, welcomed the guests and KHS experts helped make the summit a success with their interesting lectures and enlightening tour of the KHS plant in Bad Kreuznach. Here, visitors could choose between seven different work stations: the Powerwall, laboratory, key systems, process and filling technology, service and large component manufacture.
In the evening participants wound down at the Bonnheimer Hof winery, with a question-and-answer session chaired by Prof. E.h. Dr.-Ing. Johann Grabenweger, CSO for KHS GmbH.

Successful performance
At the beginning of the year, KHS opened its new nearly 20,000 square-meter World Logistics Center in Dortmund. Marc Hartmann, COO of KHS GmbH, says, “Thanks to ongoing international growth KHS must now rely on an experienced logistics company for worldwide spare parts shipping and production supply. We’ve found the right partner in DB Schenker Logistics.”
On July 1, 2013, KHS transferred its Incoming Goods, Warehousing, Packing and Spare Part Shipping departments in Dortmund, Germany, to DB Schenker Logistics, the transportation and logistics provider for German railroad company Deutsche Bahn. With this cooperation KHS is taking another important step towards service leadership, as its new logistics partner will also provide spare parts logistics services worldwide. With 2,000 international sites its global network will ensure good customer services, sustainability, and quality. Approximately 96,000 employees in over 130 countries contribute to the global success of DB Schenker. The company holds a top international position in land, air, and ocean freight.
