USA

At the moment the number of craft breweries in the USA is growing by approximately 20% annually. At the end of 2015 there were about 4,483 – this is equivalent to 99% of all American breweries. Craft beer has a share of around 21% of the country’s beer sales, with the share of the US beer output at about 12%.

EUROPE

The main pioneers of craft beer in Europe are Great Britain and France. Germany is somewhere in the middle with 307 craft breweries. Whereas the nine biggest breweries in Germany have reduced their output by 8% from 31.9 to 29 million hectoliters since 2006, the number of microbreweries in Europe has more than doubled in the last five years.

BRAZIL

There are already over 200 craft breweries in Brazil where craft beer has been around since the early 1990s. German beers styles are primarily brewed here, such as bock beer, wheat beer, black beer, and Kölsch.

CHINA

In Peking and Hong Kong there are around a dozen microbreweries apiece, with many more starting up in all other big Chinese cities. Chinese craft beer is partly based on Western styles but also plays with traditional local ingredients and flavors.

JAPAN

In Japan craft beer is growing by about 15% a year and in Tokyo alone the number of brewpubs selling their own beer has risen from four to 80 over the past five years.
